Dim or yellowed headlights reduce visibility and safety. Here’s how to tell when it’s time for new bulbs or assemblies.

Good headlights are one of the simplest ways to stay safe at night. They fade slowly, so many drivers don’t notice until visibility is already poor.

Signs you need replacements

  • Dim output: The light looks weaker than before.
  • Yellow or cloudy lenses: Sun damage clouds the plastic and scatters light.
  • Flickering: This can point to a failing bulb, bad connection or wiring issue.
  • Moisture inside the housing: Condensation usually means a failed seal.
  • One side brighter than the other: Replace bulbs in pairs so they match.

Bulb or full assembly?
If only the bulb has failed, replacing it is quick and inexpensive. If the housing is cracked, hazy or leaking, a new headlight assembly gives the best results.

Choosing the right type
Headlights come in halogen, HID and LED. Choose the type and bulb size that fits your vehicle, and have the beam aim checked after installing.

Our tip: Check all your lights every few months, including brake lights and indicators. It takes two minutes and can prevent an accident.
